#1735 and #4446 "Fly" at FlightSafety International!
On Saturday, August 29th, students from Nebo's First Lego League Robotics teams traveled to FlightSafety International near Hartsfield International Airport for a day of Flight Simulation Training and a tour of the ASA Aircraft Repair Facility. Mr. Barbour, one of the parents at Nebo Elementary and a Flight Trainer and pilot at ASA sponsored the trip and conducted the flight training.
Nebo First Lego League students spent 30 minutes each "flying" in the CRJ Regional Jet simulator with Mr. Barbour. The students sat in the pilot and co-pilot chairs and conducted exercises in manual takeoffs, landings, and flying point to point under auto pilot control. Mr. Barbour demonstrated how the combination of computers, hydraulics, displays, and controls simulate flying a small passenger jet.
In the afternoon Nebo students went on a tour of the ASA aircraft repair facility. The staff as ASA introduced the students to engine repair and large scale repairs on entire airplanes. The students learned about many parts and systems in commercial aircraft.
This trip begins the FLL Season as students study, research, and prepare a presentation on transportation as part of the First Lego League challenge. Many thanks to Mr. Barbour, the staff at FlightSafety International, and ASA for a great learning experience!
