Nebo First Lego League Teams Visit FlightSafety!
Nebo First Lego League Teams #1735 and #4446 visited FlightSafety on Saturday, August 29th. The students spent 20 minutes in the CRJ 700 flight simulated practicing takeoffs and landings! Many thanks to Mr. Barbour and FlightSafety for letting us experience simulation technology!
Students, write your comments here about your experience at FlightSafety!

Today, August 29,2009. I went into the flight simulator. First, we went into a simulator, but we were told that we had to go to the one that was next door. When we got in it we first had to wait for the computer to load and then we took off. We were fake fling the CRJ 700. Then Mr. Barber did all of the controls for us and then sat on his knee’s and let us drive. The first time that me and my partner drove my partner was steering every which way and I peddled to fast so we crashed. The second time that we tried to fly my partner just jerked the controls and we crashed again. Then, finally on the third time that we tried to fly we did it with out crashing!!! About that time Mr. Barber turned on the motion and also the Auto Pilot on. So then we could feel the simulator’s every move that it made. The cool thing was that we weren’t even driving. The plain/ simulator was fling its self because of the Auto pilot. It was like that for maybe 15 to 20 minuets. Then, it was time to land. My partner took the controls and landed without crashing. But, me I crashed it twice. Finally, our time was over and we had to leave. But it was an awesome time that me and my partner had.

When we went to flight safety I learned what pitch, yaw, and roll mean and how to do the motions. Pitch is pushing forward and pulling backwards. Roll is when you turn the steering wheel right and left. Last but not least is yaw that is when you use the rudder pedals and the plan turns on it’s axis! We were flying in a simulator for a CRJ 700. That kind of plane can hold up to 66-78 passengers. In the simulator there were a lot of buttons and complicated supplies. I also learned how to take off and land. I’m great at landing but taking off, not so much.
The simulator was being controlled by computers. In the flight safety building there was probably over 100 computers! People who want to be a pilot they have to pass the flight simulator. But it’s almost like 400$ to get to rent the simulator for an hour, that’s a lot of money. Also did you know that a pilots first flight is with passengers! We also got to see all the beautiful landscape that it showed in the simulator. They showed landscape on the T.V. screen in front of us. There was even the highway 285, it is so accurate. You can change the weather i n the simulator’s screen to really foggy and other type’s of weather. It was so fun and I only crashed four times!

My friends and I went to the Flight Safety International.I learned that roll, yaw and pitch are movements that control the plane.Piolots have to pratice in the simulatour every 6 months. We went to the AUS and leaarned that there are 900 takeoffs each day.It cost about 2 millon dollars for one plane engine.

I learned flying a plane is harder than it looks. You have all these buttons and levers and stuff to push. The cockpit’s works by pushing the lever down the airplane goes up and if you push the lever up the airplane goes down. If they did not train the pilots a lot of people could die. Simulations are a good thing because you would waste money for gas to train people. Another thing you have the risk of death and crashing. That’s why I think simulators are important.

We (The Nebo Elementary Fine Arts) went to Flight Safety International.
You have to go through alot of Flight Training to fly a Plane. But in a real Plane and you press the wrong Button… Well, lets hope you know how to fix it. When you go in a plane there are switches that control things like Air Conditioning. For a SAFETY WANRNING wear your Seatbelts and when you get a warning do what the warning tells you to do.
What I learned:
1. That you Yaw, Roll, and Pitch to control how to fly the Plane.
2. To put on and off the Auto - Pilot.
3. How to turn on and off the Air Conditioning.
4. How to make a destionation.
5. To stay in the correct Altitude of the air.
6. How to change destionation.
7. To Take - off
8. And how to put on the Breaks.
Flying a Plane was fun, but you have to know what to do!

The flight simulater was a once in a lifetime experiance. When I entered the simulater it looked very realistic. The hardest part was flying through the fog, but it was fun when i crashed on the runway. I was suprised on how easy the steering was. I never knew that flying a plane was so
complex. It was a fun and great learning experiance.

I learned when flying an airplane that you have a auto pilot. You got to keep three things in controll like yaw, pitch and roll. It is hard to get the plane up in the air and to land it.It cost a lot of money to be trained to become a pilot. I got to see what the inside of an airplane looks like. One of the best things, was that I got to go in one of the simulators and act like I was a pilot.

When I was going I was scared. We didn’t get to go long because we were least. When I land the plane I was scared to land it. But we had fun.

when I went in, I was really excited. the thrill of being able to ride in a 20 million dollar simulator fells great. when we took off, it really felt like I was flying, even with the motion off.
after taking off, we flew for a bit. then my dad programed the Sim to let us land the plane.
I tried to stay in the guide the best I could, and I did land it, but it sort of was a hard landing. I felt like i did well. all in all, I had a great time.

One day we went to Airline safety is Atlanta. It was very fun. I went into the airplane simulator. I sat in the co-pilot’s seat. I didn’t drive the simulator, But my friend Amber did. We had a blast (seriously, blast).

It was awesome! I had so much fun!! I had never been on a flight simulator before. Boy was I missing out!!!!!!! It was a great experience for me. Billie was my partner. She was the pilot and I was the co-pilot. When you fly a plane you have to look at a screen and keep the white part in tact with a pink part. To turn right you roll the yoke right. For the left you roll it left. My favorite part was when Mr. Barbour showed us the turbulence and when I landed the plane.

we came to flight safety international. we were able to use a 20 million dollar flight simulator. we learned what pitch roll yaw are. they are terms of direction in a airplane. I learned who to take auto pilot on and off. i learned how to make it go faster, slower, higher, and lower. that what i learned at flight safety international.

The wheels need to be a bit bigger and lighter to fit on the bridge. I suggest we make some.
